FOOTBALL ACTIVITIES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The various clubs in the South Wairarapa towns will play matches with visiting teams during the Easter holidays. The Wellington-Club will meet the Carterton seniors on Saturday at the •Carterton Showgrounds. Mr Frank Kilby, the famous All Black half-back, will be in charge of the Wellington team as manager. At Gladstone, the country team will play the Miramar fifteen, repeating a fixture that ? .as been held annually for some years. • ■ / ' The Eastbourne Club will engage in a game with the Greytown seniors at Greytown. The Martinborough Club has arranged for a city club to visit that town to give the Martinborough players some practice before the season opens in earnest. FIRE BRIGADE The Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade competition team will take part in the demonstration at Dannevirke during Easter. The team is J. Churchouse, G. Steffert, H. Matsin, J. Finn, D. Jackson, A? Clark. The annual conference will also be held, and Mr J. Finn will represent the local brigade. Superintendent R. P. Wakelin and Mrs. Wakelin of Carterton, will visit the demonstration. The complete party will leave for Dannevirke tomorrow. ST MARY’S CHURCH. Holy Week services will be held at the St Mark’s Church, Carterton on Good Friday, at 8 a.m., and a three hours’ service from 12 noon to 3 p.m. On Easter Sunday, Holy Communion will be celebrated, at 7 a.m., 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Evensong will be held as usual ar 7.34 o’clock. PERSONALS Mrs Nielson of Pembroke. Street a highly esteemed resident of many years’ standing, has found it necessary to enter the Masterton Hospital for treatment. Mr H. J. McKenzie of Clareville left yesterday afternoon for Oamaru to attend the annual conference of the N.Z. Referees’ Association. Mr. McKenzie is attending the conference as a delegate on behalf of the Wairarapa Referees’ Association. BOROUGH IMPROVEMENT The Carterton Borough Council staff have just completed tarring Pembroke Street, its full width, as far as the railway line, and the improved appearance of the thoroughfare is very manifest. Attention has also been given to the storm water drainage system at Faraday Street, which will prevent an accumulation of water lying in the street in future, after heavy rain. The Carterton Borough staff have been engaged attending to the low pressure water pipe line on Mr Rayner’s farm at West Taratahi. It appears that some of the pipes have been leaking, creating swamp conditions in the adjacent land, causing it to be useless for farming purposes. The nuisances has now been overcome. BOWLING The Carterton club are also sending teams to tournaments in Nelson and Napier during the Easter vacation. The players to journey to Nelson are: E. Smith, T. Underhill, G. W. Hart, C. H. Barber, A. Thompson, F. Harrington, R. Thompson and Geo. Riggs.
