Mr and Mrs R. T. St Lawrence of “Clive Grange,” Haumoana, H. 8., with their two daughters, are on a visit to Masterton.

The Hon W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, who underwent an operation at Auckland about a fortnight ago, expects to resume his ministerial duties in Auckland this week. Colonel George Holmes, of the Salvation Army International Headquarters, London, who has been on a month’s tour of New Zealand, will leave Auckland for Sydney next week.

The funeral of Mr K. A. Millar. Wellington, fireman of the excursion train derailed near Ratana early on the morning of March 26, will take place at Karori Cemetery, Wellington this afternoon. Mr. Millar, was trapped in the cab of the overturned locomotive and received extensive burns all over the body.

Mr R. C. Kean, A.M.I.Mech.E., A.M.1.Ae.,E., who has been chief inspector, of aircraft for the past two years, will proceed to Great Britain shortly for attachment to the Department of Civil Aviation, Air Ministry. Mr Kean will later spend a little time in the United States of America before returning to New Zealand.

At last night's meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, Miss A. Dixon tendered her resignation as clerk in the Gas Department, and the resignation was accepted with regret and appreciation was expressed of the services faithfully rendered during the years Miss Dixon had been in the employ of the council.

After members of the executive of the Wellington Bowling Centre had praised his administrative ability, the executive last night decided to nominate the centre rpesident, Mr M. J. Casey, for the office of vice-president of the New Zealand Bowling Association, from which, by custom, he will ascend to the office of president in 1940, the centennial year, when the Dominion tournament will be held in Wellington. Other centres do not oppose the nomination of the centre that is to conduct the tournament two years later.
