BOROUGH RATES
MASTERTON’S FINE RECORD. 97.5 PER CENT COLLECTED. At the end of the financial year, March 31, 1938, 97.5 per cent of the rates levied by the Masterton Borough Council had been collected. In making this statement at last night’s meeting of the Council, the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, expressed pleasure at the town’s fine record, and said that the financial position must be a source of satisfaction to the incoming Council. The figures at the end of the year were as follow, the corresponding ones for 1937 being given in parentheses:— Rates struck, £35,205 17s 7d (£30,154 10s 7d); 5 per cent discount, £1444 18s 5d (£1166 19s lOd); collected, £32,784 (£27,853 15s lOd); remitted or written off, £l4l 4s 3d (£59 16s Id); outstanding at March 31, 1938, £835 14s lid (£1073 18s lOd); percentage of collection, 97.5 (96). Mr -Jordan pointed out that the credit as per pass book at the end of the year was £2281, as compared with a credit of £1954 2s 7d at the corresponding date last year. All the accounts were in credit.
