The sixth annual birthday party of the Mangamutu Institute was held in the local hall recently. There was a splendid attendance, many of the neighbouring institutes being well represented.

This year the evening took the form of a dance. During the evening there was a tap dance by Isobel and Shirley Heayns—very cleverly given. Their encore number, “A Witch Dance,” was much appreciated and proved very popular with the audience. After a delicious, home-made supper came the most important ceremony of the evening, namely the cutting of the lovely birthday cake, which was made by Miss B. Biggar. Before cutting the cake Mrs J. E. Macdonald thanked all present for coming along to help to make the evening a success. She then called on the new president, Mrs Butcher, to light the candles and Miss Biggar (the past secretary) to blow them out.

The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Mrs T. Burr and Mrs T. Kerrison. The music was supplied by Mr P. Jackson. Dancing was carried on till midnight when a very enjoyable evening was brought to a close.
