“A DRY TOWN"

MARTINBOROUGH WATER CONSUMPTION. 113,000 GALLONS A DAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) “It is a very dry town,” observed the Mayor, Mr W. B. Martin, at last night’s meeting of the Martinborough Council when it was reported that about 113,000 gallons of water were used every day in the town. To check the water consumption, a meter was installed for six weeks when it was revealed that the total volume used during a period of 56 days was 6,318,500 gallons. Councillor S. Boyd: “Is that not an excessive use of water?” The Mayor: “There is a lot of stock in this town and also a considerable amount of hosing. On one day 170,000 gallons wei-e used.”
