FEATHERSTON

HARVEST FESTIVAL. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Sunday afternoon St. John’s Choir journeyed to Waiorongomai when the Harvest Festival was held in All Saints’ Church, the service being conducted by the Rev. J. T. Holland, Mr S. Booth presiding at the organ. Their pretty little church in its beautiful setting was well stocked with harvest gifts which, it is understood, will be given to the Sedgley Home at Masterton. After the service Mr and Mrs R. W. Matthews entertained the choir and others at afternoon tea. GIFT EVENING. On Saturday a gift evening was held in the Schoolroom at Western Lake in honour of Miss L. Pillar, whose marriage to Mr V. Thompson will take place this week. Mr J. W. Hyland, in a happy speech, congratulated the young couple, and called upon Miss Pillar to open the parcels. Among the gifts was one from the Western Lake Tennis Club. Dancing was enjoyed and a dainty supper concluded a happy evening. LAKE OPENING. At the meeting of the South Wairarapa River Board on Saturday last it was decided to open the Lake, which has been closed for some weeks. This was to have been carried out yesterday, but owing to unfavourable conditions, it has been decided to make an attempt today. BOWLING. At the invitation of an old member of the local club, Mr Jim Adamson, now a resident of Otaki, a team consisting of Messrs A. B. Fuge (lead), Leslie James (2), Geo. O’Neale and Harry Rolls (skip), left here on Sunday for Otaki, where they took part in the bowling tournament. The team made rather a poor start, but soon settled down to score well over their opponents, ultimately winning by a good margin. Before returning each member was presented with a silver sugar basin as a trophy. PERSONAL Mr S. Still has resumed duties after having been indisposed for the last few days.
