WAIRARAPA COLLEGE

NEW PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION FORMED HIGH SCHOOL BODY’S FINAL MEETING There was a large attendance at a meeting held in the Wairarapa College library last night when the affairs of the Wairarapa High School Parents’ Association were wound up and a Wairarapa College Parents’ Association formed. The final meeting of the High School Parents’ Association was presided over by the president, Mr M. G. Mackay. There was a fair attendance of parents of pupils of the High School. The secretary, Mr A. W. Charleson, stated that the credit balance in the Post Office Savings Bank totalled £351 16s 3d. In view of the promise made to the Wairarapa Secondary Education Board, of a sum of £5OO towards the cost of enlarging the assembly hall at the new college, it was decided to hand over the bank balance to the board.. It was regretted that owing to the prevalence of infantile paralysis in the summer and autumn of 1937, the association was unable to hold its annual fair, by which it had been expected to pay off the balance. Votes of thanks were passed to the president, hon secretary and to all parents who had so loyally helped the association in the past. NEW ASSOCIATION

At a subsequent meeting, over which the Principal of Wairarapa College, Mr G. G. Hancox, presided, it was decided to form a Wairarapa College Parents’ Association. There was a large attendance. Officers were elected as follow:— President, Mr F. Daniell; secretary, Mr A. J. Towns; committee, Mesdames M. G. Mackay, Thomas, Pither, Prior, Dickel, Towns, Masters, Whyte, Jones; Messrs M. G. Mackay, E. Tooby, Wilton, G. Masters, J. McGregor, G. Dickel, F. M. Whyte, J. L.Hare and O. Jones.

Parents of ex-pupils of the Wairarapa High School and of the Masterton Technical School are to be honorary members of the Association.

A committee was set up to draw up the constitution, rules, etc.
