WHEAT RESEARCH

EXTENSIVE WORK UNDER WAY.

Some idea of the extensive work undertaken by the Wheat Research Institute in its search for better types of bread was given to a big group of Methven farmers who were shown through the laboratories of the institute (states the “Press”). Although only a quarter of the year has elapsed the staff of the institute has made 1250 tests on flour submitted by millers and more than 900 tests on wheat submitted by growers. It is claimed by the institute that this work has had the effect of improving radically the standard of the bread baked in Christchurch and the surrounding centres. As was explained to the farmers, some of the millers submit samples of their flour daily to the institute.
