FIGHT TILL DEATH
APPEAL BY THE SPANISH PREMIER ALL MEN OF MILITARY AGE CALLED UP. CANCELLATION OF LEAVE. LONDON, April 9. The Prime Minister of Spain, Senor Negrin, has ordered all men of military age who have not yet joined the army to report for military service within 72 hours. Men on leave must return to their posts within 48 hours, states the Barcelona correspondent of the British United Press. Squadrons of Republican warplanes, en route to the front, dropped thousands of leaflets bearing Senor Negrin’s appeal, urging soldiers not to abandon their posts until death. HEAVY FIGHTING. San Mateo is about 14 miles from the Spanish coast near the northern end of the Gulf of Valencia. PLANES & SUBMARINES SUBMERGED VESSEL BOMBED NEAR ALMERIA. BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN DESTROYED. Ten Government planes spotted a submerged enemy submarine near Almeria and made several low flights, dropping bombs, after which the submarine was not seen. She is believed to have been destroyed.
