EARLY MORNING BLAZE
HOMESTEAD DESTROYED By Telegraph—Press Association. BLENHEIM. April 9. An eleven-roomed two-storey house owned by Mr E. W. Avery, Grassmere. and occupied by Mr R. Greig, situated on the new Renwick Road, was totally destroyed by fire about 5 o’clock this morning.
The first warning Mr and Mrs Greig and their three children had of anything amiss was a loud explosion, presumably due to the fusing of electric wires. The top story was found to be well ablaze and the flames spread with such rapidity that Mt was possible to save only a few articles, Mrs Greig even losing her jewellery.
One of the district’s oldest homesteads, the building was a large wooden structure erected over 50 years ago. The insurances are £5OO on the house and £l5O on the contents.
