MAURICEVILLE AFFAIRS
TABLE TENNIS ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Mauriceville Table Tennis Club was held in the East Hall and was attended by a large number of enthusiasts. The club is in a strong financial position. due to good management by last year’s committee to whom great credit is due.
The following officers were elected: —President, Mr W. Cheetham; club captain, Mr H. Myers; vice-captain. Mr R. McGovern; hon. secretary, Mr K. T. Leys; delegate to Wairarapa Table Tennis Association, Mr H. Myers; committee, Misses A. McGovern and Wilken, Mesdames Freeman and Baine, Messrs Milner, Cheetham, Myers, and McGovern; official coach, Mr W. Day. A vote of thanks was passed to the ladies tor their splendid work. The opening of the club will take place in the East Hall on Wednesday, April 20 and it is hoped that visitors will attend and enjoy what promises to be a most successful evening. CROQUET CLUB.
Under ideal weather conditions the Mauriceville Croquet Club held its closing day on Thursday. Several visitors were present and an enjoyable afternoon was spent. Afternoon tea was served, after which the president, Mrs H. Trass, presented the trophies. A presentation was made to Mrs J. Duncan, who supervises the afternoon tea arrangements on club day. The following received trophies won during the season: —Open championship. Mrs Duncan; runner-up, Mrs McKeown; handicap championship (Miss Heckler’s trophy), Mrs Duncan; run-ner-up (Mrs Trass’s trophy), Mrs Scherf; points prize, Mrs Duncan; run-ner-up, Mrs. Trass; consolation prize (Mrs Duncan's trophy), Mrs Freeman; runner-up, Mrs Trass. WOMEN’S DIVISION. The annual meeting of the Mauriceville Women’s Division was held in the Mauriceville East Hall on Friday afternoon. Mrs G. Heckler presided over a large attendance. Three new members were welcomed. A donation was received from the Rifle Club for the library funds. Mrs Forsberg and Mrs J. Milner will be delegates to attend the council meeting to be held in Masterton. Mrs J. Milner and Miss E. Dagg will also attend a conference to be held in Wellington in July. A full report was read by the secretary (Miss Milner), and the president. Miss G. Heckler, intimated her intention of reliquishing her position, but was prevailed upon to reconsider her decision, and was unanimously reelected.
Miss E. Dagg was appointed secretary.
Miss G. Heckler made a presentation to Miss E. Milner (who has been secretary for the last year) to mark the occasion of her marriage. She was also presented with a beautiful bouquet, the artistic work of Mrs A. Forsberg.
Miss Milner suitably replied. Afternoon tea was served and a happy afternoon was brought to a close.
