TENNIS SEASON CLOSED (“Times-Age” Special) The last official day of the Tennis Club was held on Saturday, although the courts will be open for play over Easter if the weather is suitable. During the afternoon the President, Mrs W. J. Martin, in presenting the trophies, referred to the successful season experienced by the players.. There had been six months of practically unbroken fine weather. Trophies were presented as follows: —Men’s champion singles cup, presented by Mr and Mrs H. R. Biss —Mr G. McLeod.

Ladies’ championship cup, presented by Mrs W. J. Martin—Mrs G. McLeod. Men’s intermediate trophy, presented by Mr John Jolly —Mr Albert McCardle.

Ladies’ Intermediate trophy presented by Mr John Jolly—Miss Betty Pryor. Boys' singles—A. Mahupuka. Girls’ singles—Ruby Lumley. These trophies were presented by the club.

The combined event, Mrs McMaster and T. Hardie v Miss Jury and E. Evans has not been played. The challenge cups were presented by Mrs H. McMaster. FIRE BRIGADE TEAM

The local fire brigade is undergoing strenuous training for the demonstrations that are to take place in Dannevirge over Easter.. Those representing Martinborough are Messrs F. P. Duffy, R. Feist, T. Boyd, G. Cotter and J. Holland. PERSONAL Miss Davey, of Christchurch, is visiting her sister, Miss M. Davey, and also Mr and Mrs Campbell Smith, of Dyerville. Mrs N. Hudson has returned from a holiday in Wellington.
