GOLF CLUB COMPETITION. ("Times-Age” Special.) An eclectic competition has been arranged for the season, a trophy for the same having been donated by Misses M. McDonald and Cock. The rain, which fell at the weekend, has materially benefited the greens and will be much appreciated by players. Playing on the local links on Saturday in a bogey competition the men’s match was won by R. McDougall and the ladies by Mrs Carter. The ladies’ committee of the Pirinoa Golf Club have altered the handicaps of Mrs Carter (28) and Mrs Bragg (30). The handicaps in all cases will be amended next month to conform with L.G.U. rules. PIRINOA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The annual general meeting of the Pirinoa Women’s Institute was held recently in the Memorial Hall. There was a fairly good attendance of members and visitors, and the retiring president (Miss Hanlon) presided. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Miss A. Hanlon; secretary, Mrs J. Priest; treasurer, Mrs F. Lovegrove; committee, Mesdames Crosbie, Carter, H. Gaudin, D. and S. Mclntosh, Sutton, Spicer and Gray. Mesdames D. Mclntosh and Neal were selected as delegates to represent the branch at the Federation Conference at Masterton this month. Mrs Crosbie was elected delegate to the annual conference in Wellington in July. A sugar bag competition was won by Miss McKenzie, with Miss Jennings second. EUCHRE AND DANCE.

A most successful euchre and dance was held in the Memorial Hall on Saturday evening. Prizes were won by Mrs Eragg (ladies) and Frank Busch (men). The music for the dance was supplied by M. Carter’s Dance Band. PERSONALS. Mrs A. Warren is visiting relatives in Christchurch. Mrs W. Hume is on a short visit to Wellington. She will sail together with her sister, Mrs Waddell, Bluff, for England this week. Miss Sutherland is the guest of Mrs M. Sutherland, Waihora. Mrs Mcllwraith, Rakaia, has been the guest of Mrs G. Sutherland for a few days.
