WAIRARAPA CLUB. SATURDAY’S RACE. Saturday’s race from Bannister Street to the Te Whiti School and back resulted in a win for K. Woollett, who was riding his first race off the 2 minute 15 seconds mark. J. Brader (3 mins) was second and B. Harman (2.15) third. The results were as follow: —K. Woollett (2.15), 1; J. Brader (3.0), 2; B. Harman (2.15), 3. Fastest time:— L. Clarke (scr), 37mins 30secs. Eighteen started but the scratch men were unlucky. First of all Little was dropped in Johnston Street, and when just over Wardell’s Bridge Dykes had machine trouble and had to dismount. After effecting repairs he remounted and finished the course. At the turn Brader broke away and took the lead. He was joined by Woollett and these two maintained their lead, Wollett winning, with Brader second and Harman well back third. Although handicapped by losing his co-markers, L. Clark finished strongly to put up the fastest time. After the race members were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr and Mrs Copp, Bannister Street. There will be no race next week, but the following week the race will be over the same course.
On Saturday, April 30, the Wellington Centre will hold its official opening and it is hoped that a number of the club’s members will visit Wellington.
The secretary (Mr C. Dykes) will be away on holiday for a fortnight, and during his absence Mr C. A. Greenwood will take up the secretarial duties.
