TWO BIG BATTLESHIPS
AMERICAN CONSTRUCTION PLANS START BEFORE END OF YEAR. NEW CRUISERS ALSO ORDERED. (Recd This Day. 1.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 8. Admiral Leahy stated that the construction of the two new battleships provided for in the new Navy Supply Bill will be started before the end of the year. Probably they will be slightly in excess of 35,000 tons each, .because of the invocation of the escalator clause. He added that two new cruisers would also be started at the same time.
