WOMEN’S DIVISION

MASTERTON BRANCH ANNUAL REPORT The annual report of the Masterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, signed by the president (Mrs K. Groves) is as follows:— “In presenting the twelfth report and balance sheet I am pleased to state the work is progressing steadily. In. the year under review, the meetings, both social and business, have been most pleasant. The Rest Room is still proving a boon to members, who are urged to use it during the day or evening. No outstanding effort has been attempted during the past year, members holding small functions in different districts, bring and buys, a jumble sale held every meeting day, donations, etc., providing the necessary funds. The committee members entertained the women in the Masterton Hospital at a much appreciated afternoon tea prior to Christmas. During the year the Women’s Division took up other quarters in Chilton Buildings to enable the Country Women's Club to expand its activities. Lectures have been given by Mrs Drake, Dr Doris Gordon. Mrs Duncan Simpson, Miss Barrer and Mr T. Jordan. A housekeepers’ fund has been established with the object of employing a housekeeper for this branch, but so far it has been found impossible to obtain the services of a suitable one. A successful children's party was held and the committee supervised the supper arrangements for the Sports Bodies’ dance for the King George Memorial Fund, also the Young Farmers’ Club dance. A piano has been purchased for the rest room, also additional chairs and a settee. Two guineas was donated by members towards the King ' George Memorial Fund. The wandering shilling competition has provided funds and amusement. In conclusion, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to all who have suffered in any way, through illness or bereavement, and to thank everyone for their loyal support, especially the committee, the hon secretary and treasurer and the Press for the generous publicity.’
