KAIPARORO MEETING The monthly meeting of the Kaiparoro Women’s Institute was held on April 5, Mrs C. Burton presiding. Mrs Burton and Miss O. Falkner were appointed delegates to the Council meeting at Carterton on April 29. After the business was concluded, a dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Misses L. Braddick, N. McAnulty and L. Dick. The games competition arranged by Miss P. Falkner, resulted in a tie by Misses L. Braddick and O. Falkner Miss L. Dick won the competition for the best darned silk stocking, with Mrs G. Dick second. The competition for the best plate of toffee was won by Miss A; Dick, with Miss V. Welch second. The best flower for the month result: Mrs Henson first (a dahlia), Miss L. Dick second (a rose). A presentation was made' to the retiring president, Miss L. Dick, and secretary, Mrs J. McAnulty, junr. ‘ SOLWAY-MANAIA MEETING Mrs S. Munn (president), occupied the chair at the monthly meeting on Thursday of the Solway-Manaia Women’s Institute, when there was a large attendance. New members and visitors were welcomed. Mrs Henderson and Mrs Scriviner ■ were elected delegates to attend the conference at Carterton on April 29. The results of the competitions were as follow: —Baby’s matinee coat, Mrs Scriviner 1, Mrs Sharman 2; jelly, Mrs Blatchford 1, Mrs Knudson 2; flowers, Mrs Scriviner 1, Mrs Henderson 2. Mrs Munn gave a most interesting talk and demonstration on planting bulbs in fibre. The hostesses for May are Mesdames Cormick, Candy, Drew and McLachlan. The roll call will be a favourite singer; the sewing, worked night dress; the cooking, three-minute sponge; and the flower, chrysanthemum. KAITUNA-FERNRIDGE The monthly meeting of the KaitunaFernridge Women's Institute was held in the Kaituna hall, when Miss L. Shaw presided over a fair attendance of members. Mesdames Keir and Stempa were appointed delegates to attend the Federation meeting at Carterton on April 29. A very interesting demonstration on “Gesso” work was given by Mrs Jarrett of Kopourangd. The competitions for the month were judged by Mesdames Jarrett and Clark, the results being as follow:—Seniors: shortbread, Mrs Stempa, Ist and 2nd; button hole, Mrs Harcombe Ist, Mrs Welsh 2nd; flower, Mrs Harcombe Ist, Mrs Shaw 2nd; Juniors: fudge, Miss Shaw Ist, Miss L. Pain 2nd; button hole. Miss L. Pain Ist, Miss L. Shaw 2nd. A competition held during the afternoon was won by Mrs Harcombe. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Harcombe and Shaw.
