MANY NEW BUILDINGS
ACTIVITIES IN MASTERTON TWELVE MONTHS’ RETURNS Building activities in and around Masterton during the past twelve months have been particularly brisk, the total amount of capital invested in new structures being in the vicinity of £135,000. The major works were the construction of additions for Wairarapa College, of a value of £33,000, a new nurses’ home, costing about £23,000, and the erection of 22 State hofises of a value of approximately £24,000. The value of permits issued by the Masterton Borough Council, which does not include any of the above buildings, totalled £54,920 for the year ending March 31, this year, altogether 126 permits being issued. Masterton borough figures in respect to building permits for the past ten years are as follow: —1929, 133 permits, £58,248; 1930, 140 permits, £83,847; 1931, 139 permits, £62,584; 1932, 101 permits, £24,183; 1933, 91 permits, £l6165; 1934, 139 permits, £50,099; 1935, 124 permits, £50,170; 1936, 137 permits, £54,798; 1937, 119 permits, £61,188; 1938, 126 permits, £54,920.
