HAWKE'S BAY TOURNEY. DEWAR CUP CONTEST. HASTINGS, April 7. Conditions were ideal for the continuation qf the Hawke’s Bay Polo Club’s annual yankee tournament at Hastings today. Although the sun and absence of wind made it hot work for players, the ground was very dry and was playing well. It is now rather cut up after four days’ play. The ponies are standing up well. On the results of matches played so far it appears that Poverty Bay A will be the winners of the Dewar Cup, for which there are still two matches to be played to-morrow. The following are the results of today’s games: — OPEN EVENTS. Senior Grade. —Wallingford defeated Rangitikei, 4-1; Waipawa drew with Poverty Bay B, 1-1; Poverty Bay A defeated Hawke’s Bay, 2-1; Wallingford defeated Masterton A, 4-1. Junior Grade.—Atua defeated Taihape B, 7-2; Taihape A defeated Waimarama, 12-0; Hastings defeated Masterton B, 5-4. HANDICAP EVENTS. Senior Grade—Wallingford (handicap 3) drew with Rangitikei (6), 7-7; Waipawa (10) drew with Poverty Bay B, 11-11; Poverty Bay A (3) defeated Hawke’s Bay (scr.), 5-1; Wallingford (3) drew with Masterton A, 7-7.
