WORK RESUMED

ON NGARURORO SCHEME HASTINGS, April 7. Work on the Ngaruroro River control scheme began this morning, there being nearly 100 men on the job. This number will be gradually increased as conditions return to normal, and the engineer of the Hawke's Bay Rivers Board, Mr G. Rochfort, said today that about 150 men would be at work by Monday. Contracts have now been arranged with the men and these will last for 10 weeks, when the position will be reviewed, taking into consideration any variation in conditions and prices. The board intends to make use of draglines if and where necessary, but most of the work will be done by manual labour.
