There is no outstanding favourite for either of the big races to be decided at Riccarton at Easter. On one chart Paper Slipper and Grey Honour are equal favourites for the Easter, and on another Janet Gaynor, Haughty Winner, and Cocksure occupy the first line. On another Galleon, Studley Royal, and Sovereign Lady are favourites for the seven furlong race, and Galleon, Sovereign Lady, and Willie Win' for the mile and a-half handicap.
Rebel Lad has won up to a mile and a-quarter, but is bred to stay any distance. He was got by Robespierre from Keel Row, by Gay Lad —Bonne Bouche, by Boniform —Heorthcn, by Phoebus Apollo—Hilda, by Musket — Guida. Some great stayers come from the Guida taproot and amongst them are Antares (Auckland Cup), Mahutonga (Auckland Cup), Fulmen (deadbeat New Zealand Cup), Strathmore, Sweet Nell, Ropa and other good winners over a distance.
