WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT ALFREDTON. At the monthly meeting of the Alfredton Women’s Institute, Mrs Hull presided. After the business was concluded, Miss Lowes gave a very interesting talk on her trip to the Coronation and Mrs Stan Edmonds sang very sweetly. Afternoon tea was served and dainty posies were presented to four members, Mesdames Watson, White, Davies and Mr K. Smith, to which each suitably responded. There was an exceptionally large gathering of members and friends to bid them farewell, as they are all leaving the district. Two new members were proposed and seconded.

The best essay on the benefits of the Institute was won by Mrs A. Napier, with Mrs Clee second and Mrs T. Smith third. A competition for the best gents’ buttonhole was won by Mrs Heckler, with Mrs Clarkson second and Mrs Didsbury third. A balloon football game caused much amusement. A special prize for most points in needlework, donated by Mrs W. Edmonds, was won by Mrs E. McLean.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Lowes for her very interesting talk, which was carried by acclamation.

The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Rolls, Mrs A. Napier and Mrs G. Napier.
