MANGAMUTU CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Mangamutu Tennis Club held a club day on Sunday when the club championships were finalised. D. O’Brien (who the previous week lost first place on the ladder to E Lett) defeated the latter 6/5, 2/6, 6/4, after a very gruelling final for the senior championship. O’Brien’s steadiness and ability to cover the court was matched by Lett’s accurate volleying and placements, but in the final set Lett fell into too many errors when playing against the wind and repeatedly netted returns. D. Bicknell won the junior title from E. M. Broughton, 9/8. The winner thoroughly deserved his success. He was five games down when his. opponent had a lapse which saw Bicknell gradually forge ahead to 8/7. Broughton took the next and twice had the match point but hit out wildly and Bicknell evened and then won with careful play. In the final for the ladies’ junior title Miss E. O’Brien defeated Mrs T. Burr 9/4 after a particularly exacting game.

The final for the ladies’ senior championship will be played this week between Miss Kath. O’Brien and Miss Ngaire Etz.
