MARTINBOROUGH
FOOTBALL CLUB.
(“Times-Age” Special.)
The annual meeting of the Martinborough Football Club was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall last evening. Mr R. P. George was voted to the chair and some thirty members were present.
The balance sheet showed a credit of £lO on the year’s working and an accumulated fund of £4B 14s 4d. The officers for the season were elected as follows: —Patron, Hon. A. D. McLeod; presidents, Mr A. F. Harding; vice-presidents, Messrs F. P. Ward, W. B. Martin, M. A. Quin, C. O’Connell, F. Hancox, T. Scott and E. Arcus; secretary, Mr Eric McAlpine; treasurer, Mr R. P. George; club captain, Mr P. Lynch; auditor, Mr F. S. Michell; committee, Messrs P. Michael, T. Knutson, E. Dempsey, W. Blissett, T. Grant, F. Harley and F. Holland.
It was resolved that a senior and third grade team be entered in the Wairarapa Rugby Union’s competitions. The lower grades are to receive consideration later. Coaches for the teams were appointed as r follows:—Senior, Mr P. Ward (temporarily); third grade, Mr Harley.
The opening day was fixed for Saturday, April 23, when a Town v. Country match will be played. Mr M. Carruthers was appointed a life member and an honorarium was granted to him for out-of-pocket expenses. HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of the Home and School Association was held last evening. There was a good attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Brimble, Cook, Ellwood, Banks, Les. Campbell, Messrs. W. B. Martin, Brimble, Burch and Misses Mahood and Herrick.
Mrs Burch was presented with a posy at the commencement of the meeting.
The president’s report was presented, and revealed a very active year with splendid results. Mr Simpson, on behalf of the staff and school pupils, thanked the Association for the work carried out on behalf of the school and expressed appreciation of the splendid way in which the Association studied the interest of the pupils. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patroness, Mrs A. Tyler; president, Mrs E. R. Burch; vice-presid-ents, Mesdames Kershaw, Cotter, Chapman, Messrs C. W. Skill and W. McNally; secretary-treasurer, Miss Ivy Smith; committee, Mesdames Lawrence, Beveridge, Griffiths, F. B. Wright, Matheson, Arthur, Lumley, Blackwell, Banks; auditor, Mr Mason.
Appreciation was expressed for the assistance received from Messrs Mason, Skill, Duffy, McNally and Beveridge. During the meeting the retiring sec-retary-treasurer, Miss J. Grant, was presented with a handbag and posy as a mark of appreciation of her services during the past three years.
