LONDON MARKETS A MOST SENSITIVE CONDITION LONDON, April 3. The butter market is in a most sensitive condition. Operators are nervous and are holding off. An extraordinary position has arisen, in which the Empire butter market is firming up, while that for Danish butter is declining. The London butter market was firm at the end of the week. Closing quotations, with those for the previous week in parentheses, are reported by the Primary Products Marketing Department as follows: —New Zealand: Salted, 115/- to 116/- (114/-; a year ago 99/- to 100/-); unsalted, 118/- to 119/(119/- to 120/-; a year ago, 102/- to 104/-). Australian: Salted, 115/- to 116/- (112/- to 114/-); unsalted, 118/to 119/- (119/-). Danish: 95/- f.0.b.: 116/- spot (96/- to 118/-). Dutch: Unsalted, 111/- to 113/- (110/- to 111/-). CHEESE. The cheese market was firm. Closing quotations, with those for the previous week in parentheses, were as follow: — New Zealand: White and coloured, 69/6 to 70/- (68/6 to G9/6; a year ago, 65/6 to GG/-). Australian: White, 66/- to 68/- (GG/to 68/-); coloured, G 7- to 68/6. Canadian: White and coloured, 76/to 78/- (white, 76/- to 78/-; coloured, 77/- to 78/-).
English, finest farmers', 98/- to 104/(96/- to 98/-). Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last week were 11.G66 crates. The quantity in store was 63,473 crates, as against 86.666 crates a year ago. Deliveries of Canadian cheese were 4382 boxes, the quantity in store being 73.138 boxes, as against 76,327 boxes a year ago.
