CRICKET

WEEK-END MATCH. A very enjoyable cricket match was played between the Masterton Savage Club eleven, captained by Big Chief Jack Kennedy, and the Taratahi Hotel team captained by Artie Woolf, at Mr. Stan Brice’s farm, Manaia Road, Masterton, on Sunday. The Savage Club in the first innings made 123 runs (J. Kennedy 58, Stan Barber 14, Gully not out 4). Taratahi replied with 222 runs (S. Brice 74 retired, J. Brice 24, J. Steffert 31, Taylor 18, Loader 19). The Savage Club in the second innings put together 173 (J. Kennedy 66, Hemingsen 46, Kemnitz 32). In the second innings Taratahi put together 74 for one wicket (Corlett 36, Loader 34).

WodX (3), Rawlings (2), J. Brice (2), Miller (2) for Taratahi and Hemingsen (2), Kennedy (2), Morice (2) were the most successful bowlers.

Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. S. Brice and family and was much appreciated by both teams. In a happy speech Mr. Kennedy thanked Mr. Brice for having made a wicket on his farm available for the game.
