FIRE BRIGADES

INTER-CLUB SHIELD. WON BY EKETAHUNA. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual competition between the Pahiatua, Woodville, and Eketahuna Fire Brigades for the Triangular Shield was held at Pahiatua on Saturday afternoon. Eketahuna retained the trophy by the narrow margin of one point, securing 7 points, to Pahiatua’s 6, with Woodville third with 2. The one-man coupling event (points for which do not count for the shield) was won by Fireman A. Gowler, who holds the Lett Cup for the second year in succession.

A new event for first-year firmen, a dry coupling event, was won by Fireman G. Martin, of Woodville.

Eketahuna in the Shield events had one first place (3pts) and two seconds (4pts.) against Pahiatua’s two firsts (6pts) and Woodville secured a second place (2pts).

The low pressure of the Pahiatua water supply somewhat nonplussed the Eketahuna and Woodville competitors who are used to practising on much higher pressure.

The judging of the events was carried out by Mr H. Braggins of Masterton, who was ably assisted by members of the various brigades. The results were as follows:—
