BITTEN BY ALSATIAN
CHILD BADLY INJURED. “What sort of a bite was it?” asked the Wellington magistrate yesterday when Frank Albert Norman, seaman, appeared on a charge of owning an Alsatian dog which had bitten Kenneth William Mitchel, aged five. “A bad one,” said Sub-Inspector McLean. “They are always bad from these big brutes.” Defendant said that he gave the dog away in accordance with a promise he made to the boy’s father. It was stated that the boy was running past the dog and accidently touched it. As a result he was attacked and bitten on the thigh. The magistrate: “I have had cases of this sort before. These dogs seem to nip rather than bite. If they bit they could tear a child’s throat out. They nip, which is very unfortunate, I must say.” A fine of 30/- and costs was imposed on Norman.
