KING GOES FOR RIDE
ROUND A MOTOR FACTORY IN AN OLD CAR. LONDON. March 13. Perched high on the front seat of a motor-car built in 1899. the King rode round the Daimler Company's works past thousands of cheering employees. The car had been built for King Edward VII.
“Do you think it will go?" the King asked, as he watched George Street, who frequently drove King Eaward VII., cranking the engine. The car answered by spluttering into action. Then the King turned to Lord Swinton, the Air Minister, and said: “I'm going to risk it. You'd better come too.” They clambered on board beneath a faded fringed canopy. The ancient bulb honked wheezily and the car, which has shown it paces on several occasions by winning the London to Brighton “old crocks” race moved off.
As it did so, the King exclaimed, “Whoops! Hold tight, everyone! We're off!” i ~
