FARMERS' UNION MEETING (“Times-Age” Special) In the municipal chambers yesterday Mr. B. Morris presided over a wellattended meeting of the Eketahuna branch of the Farmers’ Union. Messrs R. Farrow and G. P. Hanson reported on .the meeting held recently by the Wairarapa Executive. They were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their reports. There was considerable dise-assUu an the difficulty of keeping the affairs of the union free from matters of a party political nature. The meeting was strongly of the opinion that the introduction of political issues was not in the Union’s best interests. In connection with the annual provincial rifle shooting competition held by the Farmers’ Union, Mr. Farrow explained that a local team would be entered for this year’s competition. Messrs J. P. Petersen, J. C. McAnulty and R. Farrow were appointed as a committee to select the local team. TARARUA RIFLE CLUB The Tararua Rifle Club fired a trophy shoot last Saturday, finishing the aggregate for the season, which was won by C. Rassmussen after a shoot-off with S. Blewett and C. Sigvertsen. The Tocker Cup was won by N. Petersen. C. Sigvertsen and S. Blewett tied for the day’s trophy. The scores were: —At 300, 500 and 600 yards, total, handicap and total given in that order. S. Blewett, 43, 45, 46, 9. 141; C. Sigvertsen, 46, 49, 45, 2, 141; P. Berry, 46, 46, 47, 0, 139; W, J. Manser, 39, 47, 44, 8, 138; C. Rasmussen, 47, 49, 42, 0, 138; Jack Sigvertsen, 39, 43, 44, 9, 135; F. Sigvertsen, 43, 36, 43, 12, 134; N. Petersen, 45, 46, 41, 0, 132; J. P. Sigvertsen, 39, 43, 43, 6, 131; L. Sigvertsen, 45, 40, 41, 5, 131. Handicap limit 141. The teams chosen to represent the Tararua Club in the triangular matches to be fired tomorrow are as follow: — A Team, at Tararua: J. P. Petersen, N. Petersen, C. Rasmussen, P. Berry, C. Sigvertsen, L. Sigvertsen, J. P. Sigvertsen, W. J. Manser. B. Team, at Kaipaoro: S. Blewett, W. Drysdale, K. Daysh, C. Bowyer, R. Farrow, R. Thomasen, F. Sigvertsen, Jack Sigvertsen.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. RONGOKOKAKO ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Rongokokako Women’s Institute was held this week. There was a good attendance of members and Mrs Macky, of the executive committee, was also present.
Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: —President, Miss A. Schultz; vice-presidents, Mesdames Goggin and J. P. Sigvertsen; secretary Mrs A. S. Cooper; treasurer, Mrs M. Morriss; committee, Mesdames Baucke, Payne, Smith and Nagel. Prizes for the year went to Mrs Baucke (industrial), Mrs J. P. Sigvertsen (flowers).
A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Goggin, retiring president. After the business had concluded Mrs Schormann gave an interesting talk on gardening which was much appreciated by all present. Prizes for the month were won by Mrs Payne 1, Mrs M. Morriss 2. Mrs Smith 3, for something new made out of something old and the best flower competition was won by Mrs J. P. Sigvertsen 1, Mrs B. Morriss 2, Miss E. Sigvertsen 3. The hostesses, Mrs K. Falkner and Mrs Goggin served afternoon tea.
