BIBLE SOCIETY

CARTERTON BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Carterton Branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society was held on Wednesday afternoon. There was a representative gathering of collectors and interested friends. The Rev. R. Byers presided, and opened the meeting with Scripture reading and prayer. The financial statement showed that the branch had increased its collections considerably, £2B/1/4 having been sent on to the Bible House last year. This was due to the very fine work that the collectors had done. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, the Rev. R. Byers; vice-presidents, the Revs. W. F. Stent and H. White; committee, Mesdames AV. F. Stent, H. White, R. Byers, R. Every, E. Peters, J. Udy, F. E. Tyler, and Miss Telford; secretary and treasurer, Mrs A. W. Beale; collectors, Mesdames McPherson, Bridge. W. Wilson, Leitch, H. Lorensen, Madden. Misses Taucher, Braithwaite, Dunne, J. Knowles. E. Chennells, L. Deller. E. Brasell, R. Surtees, G. White and G. Every. It was agreed that letters of thanks and appreciation should be sent to Mis Burnett and Mrs Hayes for then help last year. The president. Mr Byers, moved a very sincere vote of thanks to all the workers, placing first the collectors, as the real work fox- the society was undertaken by them. It was decided that the collecting should be done during April, and that the closing meeting should be arranged fox' some time early in May, when Mrs Byers expressed the desire to entertain the collectors. The meeting was interested to hear the report of last year’s final meeting, when Mrs Stent kindly entertained the collectors.

Mr E’yers welcomed Miss Ruth Fawcett, district organiser, to the meeting, and an opportunity .was given to her to tell of the progress and growth of the. Bible Society’s work.
