DESTINATION OF SHIPMENTS NEW ZEALAND’S CURRENT CLIP Less wool was offered and sold in New Zealand during the first six months of the current season, compared with the same period of the previous season. Offerings totalled 160,448 bales, a reduction of 10 per cent on those of the first half of the previous season, probably due to the small quantity of wool carried over.. The number of bales sold fell by 22 per cent to 138,214 bales, indicating the early tendency to hold stocks against the possibiliy of a rise in the market.

The quantity of wool exported during the first six months of the 1937-38 season showed a reduction when compared with exports during the same portion of the previous season, shipments aggregating 132,052 bales against 142,853 in the previous period. The value of the exports during July-Dec-ember, 1937, however, rose by £319,648 to £2,763,504. Countries which bought more than 1000 bales of New Zealand wool during the first half of the present season together with purchases over the same period last season, are:—

The figures are notable for the marked increases in shipments to Belgium, France, Germany and Australia. Important decreases occurred in exports to Britain, Japan and the United States, the principal importers of wool from the Dominion.
