Mr Chenery Suggate, M. Inst. C.E., was in Te Awamutu yesterday making inquiries regarding water suppty, and drainage proposals.
In our advertising columns today is an announcement that a concert and dance will be held in the Kihikihi Town Hall on Monday night (New Year's night.)
The Maristßros. Club will sing at the II o'clock Mass on Sunday next, and at the 9 o'clock Mass on New Year's Day, both services to be held in the Te Awamutu Ch urch.
We have to acknowledge receipt of a complimentary ticket for the Whatawhata Racing Club's annua! meeting, to beheld on Monday next.

A tour name .it in connection with the local bowling club will be held on the Victoria Park greens'on Monday next (New Year's Day), commencing at 10 a.m. sharp. Intending competitors are requested to hand in their names to the secretary or Mr W. J. Phillips.
The post office will close in all its branches on Monday, Ist January, except for telegraph traffic between Q a.m. and 10 a.m. The telephone exchange will not be open. All mails will close at 3 p.m. on Saturday, 30th inst. There vvil' be no delivery bycarrier on New Year's Day.
The New Zealand Times works out the percentages of votes recorded for the respective candidates throughout the Dominion as follows :—Liberal 48.22 per cent., Opposition 36.31, Labour and Socialist 19.73, Independent 2.62, Prohibitionists 0.12.
Notice is given in the '' Mercantile Gazette " of the registration o'i another dairy factoay in Invercargill, viz: -the Waikawa Valley Co-operative Dairy Factory Co. Ltd. The capital of the company is £IOOO divided into 1000 shares of £l each, and it is proposed to manufacture cheese, butter, etc.
Since the programmes were printer! for the forthcoming concerts, by the Marist Bros. Old Boys Concert Club, advice has been received that Air F. Hahn. solo violinist at St. Patrick's Cathedral choir, is to accompany those members whose names appear on the programme. The overtures at both concerts will be •played by Miss Marie Hahn, the 12-year-old daughter of Mr Hahn.
At the Pirongia races on Monday great indignation was expressed at the recently enforced Act of Parliament which prohibited the bookmaker from being in attendance, but more especially in the action of the Gaming Commission who had refused to grant totalisator permits to the country clubs, it was considered that the new conditions deprived the public of a great deal of enjoyment, and furthermore, through there being no totalisator the Stale was deprived of a certain amount of revenue.
Monday next (New Year's Day) will be observed as a holiday. In compliance with the Shops and Offices and Factories Acts all business premises in Te Awamutu and neighbouring townships will be closed all day.
Granville Hunt (alias Hume Jones) appeared before W. G. Riddcll Esq., S.M., at the Magistrate's Court, Wellington, on Wednesday last, charged with forging of a promissory note. He was further remanded to appear on January 3rd.
At Waverley on election night a misguided individual was foolish enough, and it 'afterwards turned out unfortunate enough, to throw an egg which struck a lady on the back. The lady's husband, a very wellknown Waverley gentleman, was not far away and he gave the culprit chase, catching him in one of the back streets, and there administered such a thrashing to him that if he recovers by next election he will be lucky.
A return recently to hand shows that 41,891 cwt of butter was exported from the Dominion during the six months ending August 31st of this year. To the United Kingdom 36,065 cwt was exported; Natal, 3551 cwt; Cape Colony, 788 cwt. - The quantities to other countries range from one to 500 cwt. The total value of the exports for the period stated is £217,483. A similar return shows that £lO 43 has been the total amount of duty collected on imported butter during the last five years. In 1906 the amount was £2 16s, and in 1808 £7 Bs.
The Empire Picture Company will re-open at the'Te Awamutu Town Hall on Tuesday evening next with a monster holiday programme of- specially selected subjects. The manager, Mr Gillespie, has made special arrangements with Messrs John Fuller and Sons, whereby he will be enabled to giue his many patrons the benefit of that well-known firm's very best programmes. Fullers' are the largest buyers of films in New Zealand, and their name in respect to pictures is the cynosure of everything that is best. A rich treat is in store during the coming months for picture lovers in Te Awamutu.
Arrangements are now well in hand for the visit of the Marist Brothers Old Boys' Concert Club, who give concerts at Kihikihi to-morrow and at Te Awamutu on Monday night, The box plan for the-Te Awamutu entertainment is now open at Le Sueur's, and already quite a number of seats are booked. It is advisable that seats should be reserved without delay, as it is anticipated that the seating accommodation will be most heavily taxed. There is no extra charge for booking. On Sunday evening a sacred concert will, be held in the local Town Hall, commencing at 8.30 p.m. In compliance with many requests it has been decided to hold a short dance, at the conclusion of the Kihikihi and Te Awamutu concerts.
