Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows :
On the Ilth and 12th inst. we held our Ngaruawahia horse fair, when' there was a good entry of unbroken and broken draughts, also light horses. Competition all through was keen for anything of quality, and on a good "many occasions there was-very brisk bidding. The fair was a thorough success, most of the entries changing hands at good prices. We quote as follows : Unbroken draughts £3O to £34 ios, unbroken medium draughts £2O to £22 lOs, unbroken hacks £il to £l6, unbroken hack ponies £4 to £6, broken draughts £35 to £4O, medium draughts £27 lOs to £29 lOs, light draughts £l9 to £25, hacks in harness £l6 to £23, light hacks £7 to £ll lOs, squibs £3 to £5 ss. On Friday, 13th inst., we held our Ngaruawahia stock sale,when a full yarding of cattle came forward, also a few hoggets. Owing to a downpour of rain all day there were not so many buyers as we anticipated. There was, however, brisk competition for grown steers and grade Holstein heifers, and the few pens not sold under the hammer were disposed of afterwards. With the exception of one or two small pens we made a full clearance of the yards. We quote as follows : Three-year steers £6 to £6 lOs, 2% year steers £4 12s 6d to £5 2s 6d, 18 month steers £3 I2s to £4 3s, yearling steers £2 I2s 6d to £3 2s 6d, grade Jersey 18 month, heifers £6 4s, grade Holstein 18 month heifers £4 lOs to £5 is, Shorthorn yearling heifers £3 9s.
