IMPOUNDING ACT.

A SUGGESTION REJECTED. The Government was asked by Mr R. B. Ross, M.P., whether th jy would amend the Impounding Act this session, in the direction of allowing owners of stock which have not been actually impounded to obtain possession of the same at any stage of the journey by tendering driving fees (as set out in the Act), based on mileage from the place at which the animals were trespassing to the point upon the road io the pound at which payment is tendered. The Government reply is that the arrangement proposed might lead to misunderstandings between the owner of the live stock and the person driving it to the pound, especially as the driver rhay not know the proper fees. It is therefore, they say, thought inadvisable to adopt the suggestion.
