LOCAL AND GENERAL.

A bridge tournament will be held in the Town Hall to-night.

The management of the Princess Pictures announce they will appear at the Town Hall tonight. This company is well and favourably known in adjoining townships, where they have appeared on several occasions. The following tenders have been received by Mr F. C. Daniell (architect) for the erection of a residence in lvlutu Street. H.

E. Davys, (Cambridge) £375 (accepted) A. C. Cruickshank £466,' McLean and Sons £517, Wheeler and Irvine £S3Q.

The unfortunate accident to the young man Humby is yet another reminder of the state of the approaches to the railway station, and proves the wisdom of the suggestion thrown out by Mr Teasdale at the late public meeting that road improvements be included in any borrowing scheme.

Considerable interest is being shown by all residents in the probable purchase, of a striking clock for the new post office. A photo, showing the clock at the Timaru post office, which is under offer to Te Awamutu, is on view at the shop of Mr A. Gifford (chemist). No doubt advantage will be taken of the offer to procure this clock. The full cost of the tower with clock installed will be about £BOO of which only £2OO has to be subscribed locally. The Chamber of Commerce has the matter in hand.

The ladies of St. John's Anglican Guild are holding a garden fete on Wednesday week (13th inst.) to raise funds to complete the purchase of the new organ at St. John's Church. Mrs E. I. Miller has kindly placed the grounds at " Heworth" at the disposal of the guild, which offer has been gladly accepted. Arrangements are being made for the Te Awamutu Town Band to play at intervals during the afternoon, and the ladies are arranging for refreshments. Each person present is expected to bring a parcel, which will be deposited in a basbet. The material thus provided will be prepared for disposal at the forthcoming sale of work, and the proceeds derived therefrom will be expended in completing the purchase of the new organ. Particulars will be advertised in our issue of Tuesday. •
