TOWN BAND.
On Sunday afternoon residents had an opportunity of hearing the Town Band in Victoria Park. In spite of the showery weather which prevailed there was a very large attendance, .and all expressed themselves very pleased with the programme submitted. Commencing at 3 p.m. the band played several selections durihg the afternoon. Under the baton of Mr E. Moeller this band is making very creditable progress, and the manner in which the programme was rendered on Sunday .bore evidence of the painstaking efforts of the members. It is only twelve months since this band was formed and it has already been of great Service to many local functions. Sunday was the first occasion on which an appeal has been made for funds and we are pleased to report that the public responded in a very fitting manner. The sum of £3 6s 8d was collected and a later subscription brings the amount £3 10s. This, in view of the unsettled weather which prevented many from being present, is highly satisfactory, but we venture to state that an even larger amount would have been subscribed had the public known the proceeds were to go to a band uniform fund. We trust that the band will arrange to play at regular intervals during the summer months.
