DISTRICT NEWS.

OTOROHAHGA.

(Own Correspondent.)

There have been quite a number of township sections and farms changing hands this past week. Mr Wathan's freehold house and ten acres were soid, then five acres were cut off and re-sold at £52 los per acre. Another freehold section of five and a half acres adjoining the saleyards was soid at what a year ago would have been considered a high figure. The Union j Bank of Australia has purchased one of Green and Colebrook's sections in the main street; and intends building shortly. _ It is only a few months since this enterprising bank opened here one day a week in rented premises. j Mr Willis reports the sale of I Wright's section and house to j Mr Mooney, who lately sold the j farm he and Iris partner Mr Roi- ; gard held, and Mr Roigard, after having had a look round elseI where has returned to OtoroI hanga, and taken over Mr Green's

farm. Mr McLaughlin has sold his 1200-acre native lease to Mr Onions, and Mr Lang, from Palmerston, has acquired Mr Combe's farm. Every clay sees land seekers coming to this place looking for dairying land. Complaints are very rife concerning the frightful condition of our main street, with its muddy bog holes and blocked up watertables. The telephone authorities have had men here the lr.st few days connecting four new subscribers to the exchange. As showing the development that is going on in the surrounding country it is reported on good authority that three thousand totara fercing posts arrived last week at the railway station, and I saw two four-horse waggons loaded with strainers only. Great sympathy is felt with Mr and Mrs Curtis, who have lost their three-months-old baby. As the child died suddenly before a doctor could be communicated with, Mr Teasdale (coroner) held an inquest. Dr Reekie performed a post mortem examination, and found that heart failure was the cause of death.
