THE TERRITORIALS.
The totaL number oi registration forms received to the loth. May. under the Defence Act for the Te Awamutu district is 178, made up as follows: —Territorials (18 to 21 years), 87; senior cadets (14 to 18 years), 91. These numbers do not include the members of the "C" Squadron, 4th Regiment, W.M.R., or the forms which have been received incorrectly filled in. The area officer in charge reports that in many instances lads purposely avoid seeing him. By so doing they are standing own way, as it is compulsory for all between the stated ages to register, and failing prompt action in these quarters it is certain that fines will be imposed. This is a national undertaking, and the Department is doing all in its power to make the conditions thoroughly understood. The instructors are anxious to explain the position to applicants and those who fail to register not only shirk a national duty, but render themselves liable to a fine. The time for sending in the applications is now very short, and all who have not done so will do well by giving the matter their immediate attention.
