KIHI KIHI.

(Own Correspondent.)

_A social evening, promoted under * the auspices of the combined Bible Class and Mutual Improvement Societies, was held in the Hairini Hall on Wednesday evening last. A number of vocal items were rendered, and games# of various kinds intersperses?/the programme. Altogether a most agreeable evening was spent, and was thoroughly appreciated by a good gathering. Too much encouragement cannot be given to the efforts made by these two admirable institutions in the direction of providing healthy recreations and intellectual pleasures for the community in the midst of which they are set. Residents should rally to the support of objects so worthy. We understand, on good authority, that Mr Thos Wilson, who has been iu - business in Kihi Kihi for many years as blacksmith and wheelwright, has disposed of his business to Mr F. Bedford, late of Puriri. We wish Mr Wilson success in any new venture he may take up, and Mr Bedford a long and successful career in Kihi Kihi. A large congregation assembled at the usual evening service on Sunday last. Mr Bedford played a cornet solo: “ Beyond the Gates of Paradise; ” and Mr Percy Wurr ably presided at the organ. Mr O. P. Owen preached an able and eloquent sermon on the subject: “ The debt to Caesar and the debt to God.”

Mr O. P. Owen has formally taken over the command of the

Kihi Kihi Boy Scouts. The company met for tracking exercise on Friday last. At the close of the exercise Mr Perry handed over the command to the new Scout Master. The usual fortnightly service was held on Sanday morning last. The service was conducted by the Rev. A. E. Aston. The congregation unfortunately was not large, it is a matter for regret that attendance at these services is often so indifferently observed. Apart altogether from the high and imperative appeal of religious duty, some recognition is surely due to the services of the visiting clergymen. A meeting is called for next Thursday evening at 8 o’clock, with the object of establishing a local Hockey Club. The meetingplace will be the store of Messrs A Chapman Ltd., and all those interested in the project are cordially invited to attend.
