PIRONGIA.

(Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of householders to elect the school committee for the coming year was held last week, and resulted as follows : —Mr J. Sutherland (reelected) chairman and secretary; Mr H. Meyers, treasurer ; Messrs Geo. Harper, Geo. Waller, Beere, T. Steel. They are to be congratulated -on balancing up accounts the first time for a jrear or so. '• The Paterangi Tennis Club mustered in force on Saturday afternoon (even though the weather was threatening), but the results of the match were not very satisfactory. The club are having a big social and dance on Friday week, May I2th. A football match is to be played between Tuhikaramea and Pirongia next Saturday afternoon, and although the Mounted Rifles parade on that date, it is to be hoped a good crowd turn up. Mr Wm. Masson, who sold his Te Rore farm to Messrs Thomas Bros., informed me he has bought close on 2000 acres about 120 miles from Melbourne. lam sure all his friends wish him luck. He leaves New Zealand for his new home about the 18th May. The majority of Pirongia residents are wondering what will eventuate over the Bridgj|rCommission. It seems as broad as it is long where they put the bridge. We must have one somewhere in a few years. No doubt it is hard on Raglan County Council having their boundary so far away, but they should look ahead. In time all that land between Waipa and the Harbour will be taken up, and there will be splendid farms, and the main road will be along the mountain. The cargo boat from Ngarawahia arrived for the first time since the dry weather. It is to be hoped the river will keep up now. Also, it gives Mr O’Shea a chance to get rid of his timber.'
