Waipawa County Racing Club. BIRTHDAY MEETING, May 24tii. (Tips by “Touchstone.”) The role of tipster is at all times an unenviable one, but when the unfortunate has to make his selections from such large and evenly matched fields of horses as are engaged in Thursday’s events the task becomes doubly difficult. However, I cannot expect the club to sympathise with me, for no doubt they view the large acceptance list with satisfaction as promising a capital day’s sport, and likely to attract a very large attendance. The club have been somewhat unfortunate in their last two or three meetings, which have not been so successful as could have been wished, but I opine that when tlie sun sets on the natal day of Her Majesty in 1900 it will tell a different tale, for I cannot recall any previous meeting of the club at which such splendid acceptances have been received. Judging tho difference of opinion existing as to the chances of most of the candidates, it seems likely that those who make the journey will be rewarded with a more than usually good day’s sport and some fairish dividends, should they bo lucky enough to strike any winners.
