Football.

[Own Correspondent.] Napier, Yesterday. The football season opened on Saturday, and Te Aute have drawn “fir** blood” in the senior cup competition beating Napier by 14 points to nil. Tb< match was not remarkable for a u f brilliant or scientific play, but still on* can hardly expect to see form so early in the season. The College boys, showed sound combination

and with a few more-practice games will develop into a formidable team. The Pirate and Clive senior teams meet next Saturday, and although the latter’s ranks have been weakened somewhat by departures from the district I think they will register an easy win. In all probability the inter-college match, Te Aute v. Wanganui, will be played here ibis year. The event will be looked forward to with quite as much interest as a representative fixture.
