When play started tbe weather was •howery and tbe wicket heavy. Tbe Attendance was large. Jones, Laver, and Johns stood oat. For the Australians Howell and Tromble opened tho attack The firat wicket fell for one. Trumper twice missed Tannicliffo before accepting a oatch. The third wioket fell for 34. Denton and Jaokson got together at the lnncbeon hoar, and bad carried the ■oore to 83. Daring tbe adjournment a heavy stoim swept over Sheffield, and play was abandoned for tbe day. May 24 Owing to the continuance of wet wea ther the match against Yorkshire bad to be abandoned. The Yorkshire first innings was not proceeded with. Trnmble took 2 wickets for 36, Howell 1 for 24. Major Wardill, the manager, in tbe name of tbe Anstralian team, wrote to tbe Hon J. Chamberlain expressing their good wishes on tbe Queen's Birthday.
