Greymoutii, October 1. There is considerable excitement regarding an important discovery of ore at Langdons, about eight miles from Greymouth. Several leases have been applied for. The discovery was made some months ago, but the value not known till Dr Hector’s analysis of the ore was received, which is as follows :— “July 19, ore received is antimony sulphate, with 84 ounces gold and 36 ounces silver per ton- Send larger samples for verification, jis it is a very valuable ore if it maintains this quality, worth say, £350 per ton. August 12, last sample antimony ore lias 81 ounces gold per ton, which is chiefly in the quartz. Part of second sample is equal to first.”— J. Hector. Hokitika, October 2. The Christchurch coach has just arrived after eight days journey. The driver reports all rivers heavily flooded. The coach was upset in one river, and three horses were drowned. The passengers had a narrow escape. The Chief J ustice and Judge’s associate and other passengerrs are still at the Cass, and will not reach here before to-morrow night. Some of the passengers luggage is lost, but the mails are safe. Balclutha, Cctober 2. The flood is subsiding, but very slowly. Every body here is safe now. Over one hundred people are in the Crown Hotel, which is almost the only place in Balclutha flat inhabitable.
