N.Z. PROFESSIONAL TEAM. Brisbane, May 18. The exhibition football match New Zealand v. Queensland, under Northern Union rules, was played at Brisbane yesterday in fine weather before a small attendance. Wright kicked off, and for some time the play was considerably in favour of the visitors, while the local men were frequently penalised for breaches of the rules. O'Brien, however, managed to score for Queensland, but Watson failed to convert. The New Zealanders then asserted themselves, and had the home team in difficulties for the remainder of the spell, tries being scored by Tyler, Barber, Wynyard, and Lile, none of which were converted. At half-time the scores stood: New Zealand 12, Queensland 3. In the second spell the Queenslanders were outclassed, and the New Zealanders scored as often as they liked, McLean, Watson, and Hardcastle, however, managed to score for Queensland, and the game resulted in favour of New Zealand by 34 points to 12.
THE BRITISH TEAM. Wellington. This Day.
The British footballers were officially welcomed last night, the reception being exceptionally cordial. The Mayor, the Premier and the president of the New Zealand Rugby Union were among the speakers. Mr Harding, captain, and Mr Hartwell, manager of the visitors, responded.
We wish to notify secretaries of the various football clubs in Waikato, that in future the names of teams engaged in matches will be published every Thursday, and to ensure this, we would like if possible, to have the lists forwarded to us not later than Wednesday.
