Purity of Seed.
By Telegraph.—Press Association, Dunedin, Last Night.
In the course of an interview yesterday with a Daily Times reporter, Dr. A. H. Cockayne, of the biological division of the Agricultural Department, said that during the past season Mr T. W. Kirk, Government Biologist, had been paying special attention to the preparation of an exhaustive collection, illustrating the impurities to be found in agricultural seeds, both colonial and imported. This collection is to be show at the forthcoming winter show of the Otago A. and P. Society, and should be an object lesson to farmers.
A great deal of work dealing with the commercial value of agricultural seeds'has been done in the Department’s laboratory during the past season, and a bulletin may shortly be expected, dealing with the subject. This bulletin will be copiously illustrated with seed impurities, and from them fai'mers will be able to identify any undesirable alien that may be present in the sample sent forward for his use. The will be shown at the various winter shows throughout New Zealand.
