The Enterprising Burglar.
By Telegraph. —Press Association. Marton, Last Night. There was a burglary at Marton last night. The operator was evidently an expert thief making a tour down the coast. At the White Hart Hotel two boarders’ rooms were entered, and the pockets of the inmates were carefully gone through and rifled. A room occupied by the proprietor’s son was also visited, and the money in his pockets was stolen. The Club Hotel was also entered. The thief was seen by the housemaid, whose room he entered with a lighted candle, and, on her awakening, he threatened to blow her brains out if she gave the alarm. He then took the contents of her purse, threw the empty purse at her, and decamped. The police have some clue in the description given by the housemaid.

The premises of Messrs Winstone and Co., near the Wynyard Pier, received attention from members of the thieving fraternity last night, the marauders bursting in the office door and turning the contents of the room inside out in search of booty. No money belonging to the firm is ever kept in this office, but, as ill-luck would have it, Mr Green, the storeman, put about £1 worth of silver in a drawer for convenience sake yesterday, and -this loose cash was discovered by the thieves and appropriated. The visitors left little clue as to their identity, the work having probably been done by one or more of the chevaliers d’industrie who are at present in and around the city.
