Waikato Winter Show.

A special meeting of the executive of" the above association was held in the Horse Baazar yesterday morning. There were present—Messrs Allan Bell, president, I. Coates, G. E. Clark, W. F. Mason, Jas. Parlane, Dr. Brewis, F. E. Smith, S. Hutchinson, W. Rothwell, E. Goodwin, F. Seifert, R. D. Duxfield, A. Furze, J. W. Ellis, and S. J. Bullock, secretary. The President explained that the meeting had been called for the purpose of considering the position with regard to the turnip competition. Unfortunately, a number of intending competitors had overlooked the date of closing, with the result that on that date only three entries had been received —Messrs Pegler Bros., Raglan; D. Fraser, Tuhikaramea; and F. Sing, Paterangi. Since the date of closing nine other entries had been forwarded, and a number of others bad intimated their intention of competing if the time of closing entries were extended, as suggested at last meeting of the executive. The secretary had written to the three gentlemen who had entered, asking their consent to the extension of time. Messrs Pegler Bros, wrote stating that in the interests of the association and the district, they would be pleased to give their consent to the extension. Messrs Fraser and Sing wrote objecting to the extension being given. After considerable discussion it was decided that owing to the unfortunate stand taken by the last-mentioned gentlemen the association had no alternative but to carry on the competition between the three who had originally entered. Mr G. E. Clark asked why the competition had not been sufficiently advertised. A number of people in his district did not know that the competition was taking place. The President said that it thad been splendidly advertised. An advertisement had appeared in both the local papers, besides which two thousand circulars had been printed, and these bad been distributed as insets in the Waikato Argus and Waikato Times, reaching all parts of the district. At various times the newspapers had also kindly published locals calling attention to the competition. In answer to a question put by the President,

Mr Clark said he was satisfied that the competition had been well advertised: but thought that attention should have been called later to the date ot closing entries. A letter was received from Mr E. Le Roy offering to cover in the extra space required in front of the bazaar, 300 ft by 16ft, for the sum of £sl.

Mr Ellis reported that as instructed, he and Mr Coates had interviewed Mr Frear with regard to the lease or purchase of his section adjoining the bazaar for the association, but Mr Frear wished for further time to consider.

On the motion of the President it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of Messrs Ellis and Coates, to report at a future Vneeting.
