Te Awamutu News.
A special meeting of the Town Board was held on Friday afternoon last for the purpose of dealing with the sale yards site. There were present: Messrs J. B. Teasdale, chairman, D. Bockett, S. Matthews, H. Collins, and M. Laurie. The Hon. R. McNab wrote stating that the Commissioner of Crown Lands had been intsructed to offer lot 8 of the Teasdale settlement, containing 4 acres odd to the Board for £4O per acre. It was decided to accept the offer. With reference to the building of a bridge over the Punui river, near Te Awamutu, the chairman stated that the matter was progressing very satisfactorily. The warrant authorising the expenditure had been signed by the Governor. The estimated cost is £I6OO, of which sum the Board is to contribute one third.
Police Inspector Gillies, who in the earlier days was in charge of the Te Awamutu district, visited us on Saturday afternoon last, staying until Monday. During his short stay the Inspector met a number of old friends. He was pleased to see the progress made in the district and township since he left.
